Create a Sewed Adidas Logo
Hi there. In the following tutorial I will show you how to create a sewed Adidas logo. First, you will create the basic shapes using the rectangle and the ellipse tools. For the sewed effects you will use some Roughen and Scribble effects. Finally, for a stitched effect you will use some simple, dashed strokes.

This is what you’ll be creating:
Step 01
Create a 350 by 350px document. First, enable the Grid (View > Grid) and the Snap to Grid (View > Snap to Grid). Next, you’ll need a grid every 5px. Go to Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid, enter “5″ in the “Gridline every” box and “1″ in the “Subdivisions” box. You can also open the Info panel (Window > Info) for a live preview with the size and position of your shapes. Do not forget to replace the unit of measurement to pixels from Edit > Preferences > Unit > General. Al these options will significantly increase your work speed.
Step 02
Pick the Ellipse Tool(L) and create a 80 by 250px shape (I filled it with black and lowered its opacity so that you can distinguish the grid easier). Pick the Convert Anchor Point Tool (Shift+C) and click on the top and bottom anchor points (highlighted in the first image). Now, your shape should look like in the second image. Select it and go to Effect > Warp > Fisheye. Enter the data shown in the image below, click OK then go to Object > Expand Appearance. the resulting shape should look like the one shown in the final image.
Step 03
Reselect the Ellipse Tool(L) and create a 90 by 235px shape. Once again, pick the Convert Anchor Point Tool (Shift+C) and click on the top and bottom anchor points (highlighted in the first image). Pick the Direct Selection Tool(A), select the top anchor point and move it 5px to the right then select the bottom anchor point and move it 5px to the left. Now, your shape should look like in image #3. Select it and go to Object > Transform > Reflect. Check the Horizontal button, click OK then go to Object > Transform > Rotate. Enter a -43 degrees angle and click OK.
Step 04
For this step you’ll need a grid every 1px. Go to Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid and enter “1″ in the “Gridline every” box. Select the shape made in the previous step, place it as shown in the first image then go to Object > Transform > Reflect. Check the Horizontal button then click on the Copy button. This will create a horizontally flipped copy of the selected shapes. Select it and and place it as shown in the final image.
Step 05
Go to Edit > Preferences > Guides & Grid and enter “5″ in the “Gridline every” box. Pick the Rectangle Tool(M), create a 330 by 15px shape, place it as shown in the following image then go to Effect > Distort&Transform > Transform. Enter the data shown below, click OK then go to Object > Expand Appearance.
Step 06
Select the black shapes and click on the Unite button from the Pathfinder panel. Double click on the resulting shape (in the Layers panel) and name it “00″.Make a copy of “00″, select it along with the red shapes and click on the Divide button from the Pathfinder panel. Now, you only need some of the resulting shapes. Select the black ones selected in the third image and go to Object > Compound Path > Make. Double click on the resulting path and name it “Black”. Select the red shapes selected in the fourth image and go to Object > Compound Path > Make. Double click on the resulting path and name it “White”. Remove the rest of the shapes. In the end you should have only three shapes: “00″, “Black” and “White”.
Step 07
Turn off the visibility for the shapes made in the previous steps. Now, let’s create the background. Pick the Rectangle Tool, draw a rectangle the size of your artboard (350x350px) and fill it with R=105 G=148 B=205. Select this rectangle, go to the Appearance panel, open the fly-out menu and click on Add New Fill. Select this new fill (from the Appearance panel) and use the linear gradient shown in the second image. Add a third fill and make it black. Select it, change its blending mode to Multiply, lower its opacity to 6% then go to Effect > Artistic > Film Grain. Enter the data shown below then click OK. Reselect this shape, move it in the bottom of the Layers panel and lock it.
Step 08
Turn “00″ back to visible. Select it and go to Object > Path > Offset Path. Enter a 5px Offset and click OK. Remove the original shape then focus on the resulting shape. Pick the Direct Selection Tool(A), select the top anchor point and move it a few pixels down then select the bottom anchor point and move it a few pixels up.
Step 09
Double click on the shape made in the previous step, name it “01″ then select it and go to Object > Path > Offset Path. Enter a 5px Offset, click OK then name the resulting shape “02″.
Step 10
Select shape “02″, fill it with white then go to Effect > Stylize > Rounded Corners and enter a 5px Radius. Select shape “01″, fill it with none and add a 1pt, black stroke. Open the Stroke panel (Window > Stroke) click on the Round Cap and Round Join buttons then check the Dashed Line box and enter 5pt in the first dash and gap boxes.
Step 11
Turn “Black” back to visible and Bring it to Front (Shift + Ctrl + ]). Fill it with none, add a 0.5, black stroke and go to Effect > Distort&Transform > Roughen. Enter the data shown in the following image then click OK. Duplicate “Black” shape (Ctrl+C > Ctrl+F). Remove the Roughen effect and the stroke then fill it with with black. Select this fill (from the Appearance panel) and go to Effect > Stylize > Scribble. Enter the data shown below then click OK. Duplicate this shape. Select this copy, go to Appearance panel and open the Scribble effect to edit it. Enter the data shown in the final image and click OK.
Step 12
Turn “White” back to visible and Bring it to Front (Shift + Ctrl + ]). Fill it with none, add a 0.5pt (R=241 G=242 B=242) stroke and go to Effect > Distort&Transform > Roughen. Enter the data shown in the following image then click OK. Duplicate “White” shape (Ctrl+C > Ctrl+F). Remove the Roughen effect and the stroke then fill it with with R=241 G=242 B=242. Select this fill (from the Appearance panel) and go to Effect > Stylize > Scribble. Enter the data shown below then click OK. Duplicate this shape. Select this copy, go to Appearance panel and open the Scribble effect to edit it. Enter the data shown in the final image, click OK and you’re done.
